Consistency rules: when one big day can cost you the payout

Post by FXS London Scalper »

A number of prop firms have added a consistency rule: no single day can account for more than a certain share of total profit, often 30% or 40%, before a payout is allowed.

An example of how it can bite. Profit target 10% on a 100k account. You make 4,000 on one good day and 6,000 over the rest of the period. With a 30% rule, the 4,000 day is 40% of the 10,000 total, so the payout is held until the total reaches about 13,300 and that day is 30% of it.

Points worth knowing:
  • Some firms check only the best day. Others check every day.
  • Some count losing days in the total, some only profitable days.
  • The rule often applies to funded accounts too, not only to the evaluation.
For scalpers with steady small days, this is usually fine. It hurts traders who get one big move, even if it was a legitimate trade.

Has anyone been held up by a consistency rule? How did the firm explain the calculation?
