What to look for first:
- Rate decision compared with expectations.
- Vote split for the BoE, since it shows which way the committee is leaning.
- Key phrases that changed from the previous statement.
- Any change to forward guidance.
For scalpers: the first minutes after the release are usually too volatile to trade. The press conference, later, can move the market again.
What markets expect matters too: a rate cut that's fully priced in may cause little reaction, while a hawkish vote split can move sterling strongly.
After the event, write down what you expected and what happened. Over a year that note becomes a practical guide to how each bank's statements are read.
