The trade I take right after a big winner

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Most discussion of tilt is about losses. The trade right after a big winner deserves the same attention, and your journal can show whether it's a problem for you.

How to check:
  • Take your best winners of the year, for example the top 10% by R.
  • For each, find the very next trade.
  • Compare those follow-up trades with your average: win rate, minutes between the winner closing and the next entry, and the quality grade you'd give them on review.
What to look for: if follow-up trades open much faster than your normal gap between trades, or if a large share of them are setups you'd grade B or C on review, that's the winning version of tilt. After a big win the market feels like it's "working", and the bar drops. It's the same mistake as after a loss, just with a nicer feeling attached.

A simple countermeasure to test: after any trade of 2R or more, write one line about what was done right, and wait for the next M15 bar to close before looking for a new entry. Nothing clever, it just puts a gap between the emotion and the next decision.

Has anyone measured what happens after their winners? I suspect it's just as common as tilt after losses.
