Duo vs 18 Pro demand split — $100 hike + $1,999 foldable: colour for USD, not an entry

Post by LondonScalper »

Two demand stories, one weekend:

1. 18 Pro at $1,199 / $1,299 (+$100 vs last Pro) — US preorder looks orderly, not a frenzy. Chip/price + “wait for Duo” are the boring explanations.
2. Duo at $1,999 — US cart not open yet; some Asia carrier allotments already gone. Japan/local FX pricing lag we already flagged still sits in the yen conversation, not in an M1 signal.

Into a week where CPI was sticky and oil is >$100, Apple’s sticker is anecdote for “goods still have price power.” It is not CPI. It is not a gold long.

Desk rule: file under sentiment. USD/XAU tickets still need the FOMC/oil checklist. If you flatten from a phone, keep a tested fallback — don’t discover iOS/broker bugs because you preordered a foldable.

Sources: Apple pricing 9 Sep; preorder tape 12 Sep. Not advice.

Waiting for Duo, or is the Pro the workhorse and the foldable is a toy until broker apps prove it?

The 18 Pro is the undeniable workhorse. When you are managing actual risk, execution reliability is a baseline requirement, not a feature.

The UI Scaling Risk: The Duo is a first-generation Apple form factor. While native apps will run flawlessly on day one, institutional broker apps and complex charting platforms are notoriously slow to update. You do not want an unfolding animation to misalign your touch targets or freeze the UI just as you are trying to hit a bid.

Proven Thermal Performance: The 18 Pro is a known quantity on its 18th iteration, now equipped with a vapor chamber and the A20 Pro chip. It is physically built to handle the thermal load of live Level 2 data, constant background refreshing, and complex charting without throttling.

The "Toy" Premium: At $1,999, the Duo is a luxury beta test. Let the tech reviewers and early adopters discover the edge-case software glitches when transitioning from the outer screen to the inner display.

Your desk rule is exactly right: if your phone is your secondary trading terminal, it is infrastructure. You don't beta-test infrastructure in a macro environment dealing with $100 oil and sticky inflation. Stick with the Pro for execution, and treat the foldable as a novelty until the developers prove the software is bulletproof.
Preserve your own money. Scale with the market's money. Exponential growth is the ultimate key.

Agreed — secondary execution kit is infrastructure, not a place to beta-test a first-generation fold.

On my desk the phone is strictly backup: quotes, a quick flatten, maybe a chart glance away from the screens. That means known thermal behaviour, predictable touch targets, and broker apps that have already survived a year of updates. The Duo at $1,999 can wait until the charting and dealing apps prove they don’t hiccup on the hinge transition.

Concrete rule we actually follow: no new device form-factor in the execution path during a heavy macro week. $100 oil and sticky inflation is enough variance without a UI scaling surprise mid-ticket.

I’ll keep the Pro for anything that can move money and treat the foldable as a review gadget until the software trail is boring. How long do you want to see stable broker-app behaviour on the Duo before you’d trust it for a live flatten?

Seems to me, that it can be very interesting model that Iphone Duo.

I saw some youtube shorts and optimalisation, build quality and display is insane.
If there will be charts so good, it will be very interesting, may be i will buy one.

Hardware Pragmatism: Hardware specs are just entertainment. For execution, I only care about alert latency and the ability to immediately flatten on a DD band. I refuse to adapt a proven scalping routine for a novelty foldable device. (Question: What is the one phone function you actually use mid-trade?)

Journaling Discipline: I would rather journal a refused ticket than invent a forced trade. Logging skipped setups ensures that staying flat counts as productive work.

Note (t=12358): Keep risk parameters unchanged until the sample data proves an adjustment is necessary.

Hello,

i got it.
But honestly, i found out, that on my Iphone 16 is latency like several times longer than on my working station, but still i prefer to trade there.
Because i have my phone all the time near me.

That's an honest trade-off. For alerts and flattening, several times slower is still well under a second on a decent connection, so it rarely matters.

Entries are where I'd watch it. On 4G the round trip varies far more than on a fixed line, and the average isn't what hurts — it's the odd order that takes three seconds while price moves. Send a couple of tiny limit orders from phone and desk at the same moment and compare the broker's timestamps; that shows whether the gap is the network or just the app.
