Exactly. On gold especially, a “safe” three-dollar stop is often just a high-frequency donation to normal noise. On a quiet EURUSD M5 mean-reversion it might be appropriate. The stop has to match the instrument’s breath and the setup’s invalidation, not a forum slogan.

Your three pre-trade checks (session, written entry, invalidation) are the right hierarchy. I dropped “does this feel good” years ago; feelings are late and noisy.

On sizing up after a good week: agree — freeze size until a review, not until confidence peaks. Confidence is usually lagging P&L wearing a trench coat.

One London habit: if the structural stop is wider than my risk budget allows at planned size, I reduce size or skip. I do not “tighten for safety.” That just relocates the loss to a noise hit.

Which abandoned setup do you miss least when the tape is quiet?

Physical habits are risk controls with different clothes. Sleep debt shows up as wider stops and extra tickets. From Frankfurt I treat the pre-session walk as mandatory as the news check — five minutes of quiet before the platform beats another indicator.

The wrong-pair embarrassment story is useful too. I keep a large pair label on the chart and a one-line ticket note (“EURUSD long reclaim”) before size. Confused symbols are not cute; they are process failure.

Rule: if sleep was short or I skipped the walk, size drops one step automatically. No heroic full size on a tired nervous system — especially on funded risk.

Wrong-symbol near-misses also pushed me to confirm the ticket ticket text out loud once. It feels silly until it saves an account. Habits beat cleverness on tired mornings.

Which non-chart habit actually moved your expectancy more than a strategy tweak?
