This is the unsexy broker detail that doesn't make YouTube thumbnails.
**Stops level / freeze level** (broker symbol config) can block:
- Modifying SL/TP too close to price
- Placing stops inside the forbidden distance
- Panic edits during fast London tape
On a 2–4 pip scalp thesis, a 5–10 point (broker points) freeze level means your "tight management" plan is illegal on that symbol. You either widen (changes R), use server-side logic differently, or manage exits with market orders only.
How I check (MT5): symbol specs → Stops level / Freeze level. I also print them from MQL/Python because GUIs get ignored when you're excited.
**Seen in the wild:**
- Majors fine, gold nasty.
- Demo specs ≠ live specs (yes, really — verify live).
- Levels that "only matter during news" somehow matter every Monday open.
If your strategy needs surgical SL moves on M1, this setting is part of broker selection — same tier as commission.
What's the worst freeze/stops level you've hit on a pair you actually scalp?
Do you manage exits mostly with market orders to dodge modification limits?
Prop firm platforms: anyone checked whether their MT5 symbol specs match the marketing "raw spreads" story?
Freeze level / stops level traps that silently murder scalps
