Reaction time is not a fixed number

Human reaction time for a simple visual cue is around 200 to 250 milliseconds. For a scalper, the real number is far larger, because the decision includes reading the chart, confirming a condition, choosing a size, and clicking. In practice, that stretches into one to three seconds, and under stress, longer.

The variability matters more than the average. A trader who usually acts in a second but occasionally freezes for six will get the worst fills on the biggest moves, since those moves are exactly when hesitation peaks.

Measure it. Use a simple test: record the time between a defined trigger, such as a candle close with a condition, and the actual order. Do it over a week and plot the distribution.

If the tail is long, reduce reliance on manual speed. Pre-place orders, use hotkeys, or automate the entry while keeping judgment for the filter.

Training can help too. Repeating the same routine until it is automatic shortens the response and makes it consistent.

How long does it take from signal to click, honestly measured?
