Prop accounts, VPS and IP addresses: avoiding false fraud flags

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Some prop firms flag accounts when logins come from many different IP addresses, or from the same IP as other traders. It's worth knowing how to avoid a false flag.

Habits that reduce risk:
  • One VPS with a dedicated IP, not a shared VPS where other traders may use the same address.
  • Avoid public VPNs that rotate addresses.
  • Don't share a VPS with friends trading their own challenges.
  • Log in from a small set of devices, and know which ones they are.
  • Read the firm's rules on copy trading and account management.
If you travel, consider telling support in advance. A login from another country can look like account sharing.

Also check whether the firm allows the same strategy on several accounts. Two traders running identical EAs from the same IP can look like one person running multiple accounts.

If unsure, get the firm's answer by email and save it.

Has anyone had a false flag, and how was it resolved?
