Funded account psychology: trading someone else's capital

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Once funded, many traders find their behaviour changes. Some become overly cautious, protecting the account at all costs. Others relax too much, since it is not their own money. Both shifts can hurt results.

A useful frame is to treat the funded account exactly as a personal account with the same rules, and to track results the same way. The firm's rules become hard limits, and the trader's own plan sits inside them with additional buffer.

A practical method is to set personal limits tighter than the firm's: for example, a personal daily loss limit at half the firm's limit. This keeps the account well away from breach and reduces anxiety about the rules.

It also helps to plan for the first payout in advance: what amount is enough, and whether to keep trading at the same size afterwards.

Journaling emotions around funded trading, separately from trade results, can reveal patterns that matter.
