VPS disconnects during live EURUSD trades: a one-minute procedure

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Disconnects happen. What matters is the first minute, and a written procedure beats improvising.

A procedure worth printing next to the screen:
  • Every position must have a server-side stop and target before anything else. Then a disconnect isn't an emergency, just an inconvenience.
  • Step 1: check positions from a second device, the broker's web terminal or phone app.
  • Step 2: if a trade is near target or stop, do nothing; the server-side orders will handle it.
  • Step 3: if the trade needs management, manage it from the second device. Don't wait for the VPS.
  • Step 4: once back, read the Journal for the disconnect time and note it.
What not to do: open new trades from the phone to "make up" for the interruption.

Check whether your broker's web terminal works with your account before you need it. Some account types aren't available on all platforms, and finding out mid-trade is too late.

A note on EAs: an EA that manages trades only client-side stops managing when the VPS dies. Server-side stops are what protect you.

What does your procedure look like?
