A broker scorecard template: categories and weights

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Scoring brokers on a schedule, say twice a year, makes switching decisions less emotional. Here's a template structure; the weights are a suggestion to adjust to your own style.
  • All-in cost per trade (30%): spread plus commission, measured at your trading hours.
  • Execution (25%): slippage distribution and rejection rate from your own fills.
  • Withdrawals (15%): time from request to money received.
  • Regulation and entity (15%): which regulator covers your account, not the group's best licence.
  • Platform and tools (10%): stability, server location, VPS options.
  • Support (5%): whether a technical question gets a specific answer.
Score each from 1 to 5, multiply by the weight, and keep the evidence for every score in a short note. The note matters more than the total: in six months you'll want to know why something scored a 2.

A worked example: a broker that's cheaper by 0.1 pips but scores 2 on withdrawals may still lose to a slightly dearer one with a 5. That's a judgement the weights make explicit.

What weights would you change?
