Copying trades between prop accounts: where the rules usually stand

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Traders with more than one funded account sometimes want to copy trades across them. Firms vary widely in whether this is allowed, and the rules are often stricter when accounts are with different firms or held by different people.

The common concern for firms is coordinated risk: one trader controlling many accounts that all take the same large positions, or groups of traders taking opposite positions to guarantee one passes. Terms often prohibit these explicitly.

A practical step is to ask the firm in writing whether copying between your own accounts at that firm is permitted, and to keep the answer. Copying between firms is a separate question that each firm may answer differently.

Even where allowed, copying multiplies exposure: a losing day on one account is a losing day on all of them, which can breach several accounts at once.

It is safer to treat each account as independent with its own risk plan.

Have you asked a firm about copying, and what did they say?
