Web-based trading platforms have a delay few people test

Web-based trading platforms are convenient. No install, works anywhere. The trade-off is performance, and it's rarely measured.

A browser tab adds layers between the click and the server: JavaScript processing, the browser's rendering, and the WebSocket connection. Extensions, other tabs, and memory pressure all affect speed.

Charts in a browser tend to lag more under heavy load. A burst of ticks during news can freeze the interface for a second or two, and clicks queue up.

Another difference is how the connection handles interruptions. A desktop terminal may reconnect cleanly, while a browser tab might silently lose the stream and show stale prices with no warning.

Tests are easy to run. Open the same account in the browser and in the desktop terminal, and compare the price updates around a news release. If the browser trails by a few hundred milliseconds, it shows.

Browsers are fine for monitoring and occasional trades. For fast scalping, a dedicated desktop application, on a clean machine with few extra programs, is usually quicker.

Was a frozen browser platform ever compared against the desktop version afterward?
