Order comments as a free analysis tool

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Most platforms let an order carry a short comment. It appears in the trade history and in exported statements, and it costs nothing to use.

A compact code in the comment, like a setup name and session, makes later analysis easy. For example 'brk-lon' for a breakout at the London open, or 'fade-ny' for a fade in New York.

When the history is exported, the comment column becomes a tag. A pivot table by tag shows which setups earn and which lose, without manual journaling for each trade.

The limit is a short length, often 31 characters on some platforms. Keeping codes brief and consistent matters.

Automated systems can write comments programmatically, including parameters, signal strength, or the spread at entry.

The habit works best when the codes are defined in advance and kept stable. Changing labels weekly makes the data meaningless.

It is a small step that turns the platform history into a dataset.

What tags go into order comments, and which analysis has come out of them?
