Almost everyone has a daily loss limit. Few follow it when the moment comes. The limit gets moved, or one more trade is taken to win it back.
Rules that survive pressure share some features. They are specific, measured in a number and not a feeling. They are enforced by something outside the trader's in-the-moment judgment. And they have a real consequence.
Technical enforcement works best. Some platforms and third-party tools can disable trading after a loss threshold. Brokers with prop style rules do it automatically.
A manual approach is writing the limit on paper before the session and stepping away from the screen when it is hit, with a calendar block that makes it final.
The size of the limit matters too. Too tight, and normal variance triggers it constantly. Too loose, and it fails to protect. Many use two or three times the average losing day as a starting point.
How is the daily limit enforced, and what happens in practice when it is reached?
