Screenshotting trades: a habit that changes behaviour

Many traders capture screenshots of their setups for later review. It is a good practice, with one catch: the act of capturing can change how trades are taken.

A trader who knows a screenshot will be posted online may favour pretty setups over profitable ones. A trader who screenshots only winners builds a distorted record. And the moments spent capturing are moments not spent watching.

There is also the hindsight effect. A screenshot taken after the move, with the full pattern visible, makes the setup look obvious. Memory then replaces the uncertainty of the moment with the clarity of the picture.

A better method is capturing at the time of entry, before the outcome is known, and including every trade, win or lose. Review sessions then show what the setup looked like in real time, not in retrospect.

Annotating the capture with the reasoning and the confidence at the time adds even more value later.

A sound habit is a standard template for each capture: the chart, the plan in one line, and the confidence level. Later, patterns in what the confident trades looked like become visible.

Are screenshots taken at entry or after the fact, and do they include the losers?
