Few things feel worse than a Windows update forcing a restart in the middle of a trading session. The platform closes, the open positions stay live, and the stops are only as good as the server side orders.
This happens on home computers and VPS machines alike. The default setting on many systems installs updates and reboots outside active hours, but active hours are a narrow window and rarely match a trader's schedule.
Fixes are simple but get skipped. Set the active hours to cover trading time. Pause updates during the week and apply them on the weekend. On a VPS, check the update policy before relying on it.
Also worth verifying: do stop losses and take profits live on the server, or does the platform manage them locally? Server side orders survive a crash. Anything handled by a script or expert advisor does not.
A restart is also a good moment to check that the platform reconnects and loads the right charts and settings without manual steps.
Has an unexpected restart ever cost a trade, and what safeguard was added afterward?
