Requote or rejection: they are not the same problem

Post by Amanhasnoname »

People lump requotes and rejections together, but they hurt in different ways and point at different causes.

A requote means the broker came back with a new price and asked for approval. Time passes, and usually the new price is worse. A rejection is a flat no with nothing offered. The order just dies.

Requotes tend to show up on instant execution accounts with dealer intervention. Rejections are more common on market execution accounts when liquidity vanishes for a moment, or when the price tried to hit a level the provider no longer stands behind.

The fix is different too. With frequent requotes, check whether the account type is the issue. With frequent rejections, check the order size and the time of day, since the same order that gets rejected at 21:59 GMT might fill fine at 14:00.

Keep a simple tally: time, pair, size, outcome. After two weeks the pattern is usually obvious, and it is often concentrated in two or three specific minutes of the day.

Which one hurts more in your trading, the delay before a worse fill or the clean rejection that leaves you out of a move?
