Platform freezes during news are not random

Post by Shadow Trader »

The platform that locks up for ten seconds exactly when a number is released feels like bad luck. Usually it isn't. Thousands of clients are sending orders, refreshing quotes, and watching charts at the same moment. Servers are loaded, and the quote stream gets throttled or queued.

Several effects stack. The price feed slows down, so the displayed price is stale. Order messages queue up, so execution is delayed. Charts stop updating, so decisions are made from old information.

The nastiest part is the mismatch. A platform may look frozen, then catch up and process a stack of clicks in sequence. A double-clicked sell becomes two sells. A close followed by a retry becomes an open position in the opposite direction.

A few habits reduce the damage: avoid repeated clicking, confirm the order status in the trade history rather than the chart, and keep a mobile or web terminal as backup on a different connection.

Another thing to check: some brokers run separate servers for different account types. A standard account might be congested while a more expensive one stays responsive.

Is anyone running a backup platform specifically for news, and has it actually saved a trade?
