What the comment field in MT5 deals tells you after a stop-out or rejection

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Most people never look at the Comment column in the MT5 History tab. For a scalper it's a small source of facts.

What typically appears there:
  • [sl 1.08410]: the deal was closed by the stop loss, with the stop price. Compare with the actual fill to see slippage.
  • [tp ...]: closed by take profit.
  • so: ...: stop out by the broker because margin was too low, with margin level details.
  • Custom comments from an EA, which you control.
The Journal tab adds detail for rejections, with return codes like "invalid stops", "off quotes" or "market closed".

Practical uses:
  • Filter history by [sl] to compute stop slippage quickly.
  • Check that a trade you think was a manual close wasn't a stop.
  • In EAs, write the setup name into the comment so the history explains itself.
Note that some brokers overwrite comments. If yours does, store setup names in the magic number or in your own log instead.

What else do you use the history tab for?
