When a trade goes wrong, closing positions through menus feels painfully slow. A hotkey that closes everything at once can be the most valuable tool on the desktop.
In MT4 and MT5, scripts or expert advisors can be bound to a key to close all positions on the account or on the current symbol. Other platforms have built-in options.
The key is to test it thoroughly on demo, then on live with small size. A close-all script that misses pending orders, or only closes one symbol, creates false confidence.
It also needs protection from accidental triggering. A combination of keys rather than a single key helps, since nobody wants to flatten everything by brushing the keyboard.
Some add a second hotkey that cancels all pending orders, because an order left behind can reopen the same exposure.
Practising the sequence builds muscle memory, so that it works under stress.
Do you have a panic button set up, and has it ever been used?
