Stale quotes after a pause in the feed

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Sometimes the platform freezes for a second or two, and the price on screen stops updating. Then it jumps. That jump is the danger zone for anyone clicking quickly.

During the freeze, the real market kept moving. The displayed price became stale, and any order sent in that moment gets compared with a server price that's already different. The result is a rejection, a requote or a fill several tenths of a pip away from the click.

Symptoms are easy to spot once noticed: the clock in the corner keeps ticking, but the bid and ask don't change. Some platforms show a connection indicator that turns amber or red, though many traders ignore it.

A good habit is to wait for two or three fresh ticks after any visible stall before sending anything. A cheap indicator that flags the time since the last tick, and turns the chart red after a second of silence, takes the guesswork out.

Entries made on stale quotes tend to be the ugly ones in the journal, and they're easy to avoid.

What does your platform show when the feed stalls, and do you react to it?
