Scheduled maintenance gets announced, usually for the weekend when the market is closed. The trouble is that the real behavior around those windows is messier than the notice suggests.
Brokers often restart or update servers shortly after the Friday close and again before Sunday's open. Sometimes the work runs long, and the platform connects but quotes stay stale or trading stays disabled for the first minutes of the week. The first candles after a restart can carry odd spreads and odd prices, and some brokers reject orders until their feeds settle.
There are also unannounced restarts during the week, usually brief, that show up as a short disconnection with an automatic reconnect. If an EA is running, the reconnect is a risk point: some EAs re-initialise and lose their internal state, while others carry on as if nothing happened.
Another overlooked item is the platform's own update. A terminal that updates itself on reconnect may restart and drop open charts and templates, leaving an EA unattached until someone notices.
Worth doing is checking the broker's announcements, keeping the opening minutes of the week out of the plan for tight scalps, and verifying after every restart that the EA is attached and showing as active.
How have maintenance windows treated you at the weekly open, and does your broker usually run late?
Weekend restarts and maintenance windows are not always on the calendar
