Revenge trading: building a delay into the platform

Post by FXS London Scalper »

After a loss, the urge to get it back immediately is common. A delay built into the routine, rather than relying on willpower, can stop the worst trades.

Options:
  • A rule that every losing trade is followed by a five-minute break away from the screen.
  • A script or EA that blocks new orders for a set time after a stop-out. Some trade managers have this built in.
  • Writing a short note after every loss before the next trade: what happened, was it a valid setup?
How to know if revenge trading is a problem for you: tag trades opened within five minutes of a loss and compare their results with other trades. If they're clearly worse, the delay is worth it.

A worked example: if trades within five minutes of a loss average −0.3R and others +0.1R, simply skipping them improves results more than most strategy changes.

The block approach works best because it removes the decision. The note approach builds awareness over time.
