Broker server migrations and the symbol that changed overnight

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Brokers occasionally migrate clients to new servers or change symbol naming and specifications. The change may arrive with minimal notice, and the consequences for automated systems can be significant.

After migration, symbol names may carry a new suffix, contract sizes can change, or spreads may differ because of a new liquidity setup. History data may be reset, and indicator values change as a result.

EAs that rely on specific symbol names stop trading, or trade a different instrument than intended. Positions can be transferred with new tickets, confusing logic that tracks tickets.

Prepare by reading notices carefully and asking support about technical changes. After a migration, run the system in a limited mode with small size, and verify every parameter: symbol, lot rules, stops level, commission.

Compare execution metrics before and after. If they deteriorate, document and raise the issue.

Keeping the EA's configuration in a file makes adaptation easier than editing code.

Has a server migration ever changed the execution quality or broken an automated setup?
