A fast scalper depends on hands more than mouse. Hotkeys can cut entry time and lower the chance of a misclick. But poorly designed hotkeys can cause errors that cost more than they save.
Good design starts with separation. Entry and exit keys should be far apart, so a slip cannot trigger the wrong action. Exit-all should require a deliberate combination, not a single key near the buy button.
Consistency matters. Keys should be mapped identically across charts and sessions, so muscle memory works. Using modifier keys for risky actions, such as doubling size, prevents accidents.
Feedback is also important. A visible confirmation or a sound when an order is sent reduces the temptation to press twice.
Practice on a demo until actions are automatic. Test under stress by simulating fast conditions. Check what happens if the focus is on another window when a hotkey is pressed.
A thoughtfully built hotkey layout turns execution into reflex.
How are the hotkeys laid out, and which one has caused an accidental trade?
