MT5 is newer and supports more features. MT4 remains popular among scalpers because of its simplicity and the huge library of existing tools. The speed difference between them is smaller than the quality difference between brokers.
Under the hood, MT5 uses asynchronous order handling, which can allow faster batch operations, while MT4 processes trades sequentially in a single context. For high-frequency order sending, MT5 may be better.
MT5's strategy tester offers real tick modeling, multi-threaded optimization, and cloud agents. MT4's tester is weaker for tick-level analysis.
On the other hand, MT5's position model can be netting or hedging, which complicates strategy design. And not every broker offers both with the same conditions.
For manual scalping, the interface speed and chart handling feel similar, and personal preference matters.
Rather than choosing by reputation, test both on the same broker with the same strategy for a couple of weeks. Compare latency, error rates, and ease of use.
