Friday evening and Sunday open spreads: when to accept them

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Being in a trade late on Friday or at the Sunday open means accepting much wider spreads. A rule decided in advance keeps that from becoming a surprise.

A possible rule set:
  • After about 21:00 London on Friday, spreads widen as the market thins. Close everything before then, unless the plan is to hold.
  • Never open a new scalp in the last hour on Friday.
  • If a trade must be closed later, use a limit order rather than paying a wide spread at market.
  • On Sunday, no trades in the first hour after the open.
Why it matters: a stop hit at rollover or at the Sunday open can fill at a price far away because of the spread, not the market. A worked example: a 5 pip stop with a 4 pip spread at the open can trigger on the ask when the bid barely moved.

To set your own times, log spreads on your account for a few Friday evenings and Sunday opens.

Does anyone hold scalps into the weekend?
