A daily trade cap sounds childish until the log gets reviewed

Setting a limit of, say, twenty trades a day feels arbitrary. The market might offer thirty good setups.

The log tells a different story for most scalpers. Plot results against trade number within the day. The first ten trades tend to carry the best average. After that, quality drops, as fatigue, boredom and the need to recover or extend a win creep in. By trade thirty, the average trade is negative.

A cap makes the decision once, in a calm moment, and removes it from the heat of the session. It also forces selectivity. With twenty trades to spend, a marginal setup costs something.

The right number comes from the data, not from a rule of thumb. Find the point on the curve where average expectancy crosses zero, and set the cap a little below.

Some prefer a cap on losses instead, or a cap on time. Any limit set in advance beats a limit improvised in the moment.

Where does expectancy turn negative within a typical session?
