Headlines on social media arrive after the market has already moved

Post by Shadow Trader »

Posts from official accounts and news outlets feel instant. For a scalper, they're historical records. Machines monitor the same sources and trade within milliseconds of publication.

The pattern is easy to check. Take a headline that moved a pair, note its post time, and look at the tick chart. The move usually begins at or even before the stated time, because the original publication preceded the social post.

Trading the reaction to a social media headline means joining a move already in progress, with a stretched spread and the first wave of profit-taking arriving.

There's a second problem, accuracy. Fake accounts, misread headlines and satire all produce spikes that reverse within minutes. Fast reaction to an unverified post has cost many accounts real money.

Some traders use social feeds as a warning light, a sign that something is going on, and then wait for price to confirm the nature of the move. That approach accepts a worse entry in return for avoiding the false ones.

Which source of news has proved fast enough to act on, if any?
