Session rules that actually hold: how to write a hard stop you cannot argue with

Post by Amanhasnoname »

A daily loss limit that exists only in the head gets renegotiated at the worst moment. At minus 2R the thought is "one more clean setup and it is back to flat". The rule was written by a calm person; the one deciding at that moment is not calm.

What makes a limit stick is removing the choice, not strengthening the intention. Some structures that work:

- limit expressed in R, not currency, so a bad day looks the same regardless of lot size (for example, three full losses or minus 3R, whichever comes first)
- a time limit as well: ninety minutes of active trading, then done, regardless of result
- a consequence that is physical, like closing the platform and logging out, or using a broker feature or prop-style daily drawdown rule if available
- a witness, such as a friend or forum thread where the day's stop is posted before the session starts

Also worth deciding in advance: what counts as a restart. If the answer is "nothing, tomorrow", then the second chance never appears and the rule never gets tested at the exact moment it matters.

What does the hard stop look like in a routine that survives bad days, and what made it stick?
