Scenario most scalpers know: the setup triggers, hesitation lasts three seconds, price runs eight pips. Now the plan says no trade, but the screen says free money is leaving. So the entry goes in late, with the stop still placed where the original one would have been. Risk is now maybe double in pips relative to the remaining reward.
Run the numbers. Original idea: 3 pip stop, 6 pip target, 2R. Price moves 4 pips before the late entry. Same stop distance means target is now only 2 pips of real room, or stop gets widened to 7 to stay behind structure. Either way, the trade is a different, worse trade wearing the old trade's label.
A rule that works for plenty of people: define a maximum slippage from the planned entry, in pips, written down before the session. Past that number the setup is void. Not delayed, void. Then wait for the next separate trigger, which is often a retest anyway.
Also log missed trades as their own category. After a few weeks, it usually shows that the chases lose more than the misses would have won.
How do you handle the first minute after a miss, do you step away or just mark the chart and wait?
The entry you missed is not coming back, and the chase costs more than the miss
