NZD and CHF news reactions are not EURUSD with a different name

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Copying stop and target values from EURUSD to NZDUSD or USDCHF around news is a quiet way to lose money. The books on those pairs are thinner, so friction scales up in proportion. If EURUSD goes from 0.6 to 3 pips at a release, NZDUSD might go from 1.2 to 6 or more, and the move can overshoot further before snapping back.

Each currency also has its own personality. CHF carries the risk of a surprise from the central bank, which in the past has produced very large moves with almost no warning, and it behaves as a safe haven whenever risk turns ugly. NZD reacts to its own rate decisions but also borrows moves from AUD data and from China-related headlines, so a release in another country can move it.

For a scalper, the useful number is not the spread alone but the ratio of post-news spread to the typical one-minute range. If that ratio is much worse on the thin pair, the same setup has a worse payoff, and a stop that works on a major may sit inside normal noise there.

So scale stops and targets from measured conditions on each pair. Do not assume that a setup tuned on a major transfers.

What multiple of normal spread do you see on NZDUSD at a central bank decision compared with EURUSD at its own?
