Web terminal for scalping: fine or a handicap?

Post by Amanhasnoname »

The execution path of a web terminal is the same trade server as the desktop one, so orders are not inherently slower. The differences come from living inside a browser.

Browsers throttle background tabs. A tab that is not in focus, or sits behind another window, can have timers slowed down or be put to sleep entirely by memory saver features. Charts then catch up in a rush when the tab returns, which is exactly the wrong moment. Extensions, ad blockers and other tabs share the same process budget. Hotkeys are fewer, custom indicators are mostly missing, and automated strategies are out of the question, so there is no EA doing the management.

Where it makes sense: a borrowed machine, an emergency close, or a quiet backup on a second screen. For a main scalping workflow, the desktop terminal is a better fit.

If a web terminal is used anyway, a few steps help. Run it in its own browser window, not a tab among twenty. Turn off tab sleeping and memory saving for that site. Keep the window visible, not minimised. Use a clean browser profile without extensions.

Has anybody scalped mainly through a web terminal for months, and what was the first thing that broke?
