What survives when the platform disconnects mid-trade

Post by Amanhasnoname »

A cable gets knocked out with three positions open. Which parts of the plan are still working, and which just stopped without telling anybody?

Stops, take profits and pending orders that sit on the broker's server keep working with the terminal closed or the PC off. That part is reassuring, and it is the reason a hard stop at the broker is worth more than any clever exit.

The management logic running on the client does not survive. Trailing stops done by an EA, break-even scripts, partial closes at a target, time-based exits at the end of the session, news filters that close trades: all of it lives in the terminal. Without a connection, those rules are silent, and when the platform returns the price may be far from where the rule would have acted.

Sort every rule in the system into two lists, server-side and client-side. For each client-side rule that matters, check that a hard stop exists on the server as the safety net. Then test it on a demo account: kill the terminal process mid-trade, wait a minute, restart, and watch what the EA does with the open position.

Which management rule, trailing, break-even or scale-out, would hurt the most if the terminal died mid-trade?
