One-click trading and the lot field nobody checks

Post by Amanhasnoname »

The most expensive misclick is rarely the button. It is the lot size sitting in the one-click panel, left at 2.0 from a swing trade the day before, while the next trade is a 0.2 scalp. The click goes through exactly as designed.

Other ways one-click bites:

- Double click while the platform lags, and the second click opens a second position.
- The panel or chart shifts as the spread widens, and the click lands on the other side.
- A click on the chart while it is redrawing registers at a price that is already gone.

None of that is a platform bug. It is just a very fast tool with no confirmation step, and that is why it is popular.

A few habits take the risk down. Set the lot size as part of the session start routine, out loud if needed. Use a template with a fixed default size so a restart brings back the same value. Consider keyboard hotkeys tied to fixed sizes: one key for 0.2 buy, another for 0.2 sell, no field to edit. Disable double-click on the mouse buttons if the hardware allows it, since a bounce on a worn mouse switch can count as two clicks.

Treat the lot field as the hazard, and make the wrong size impossible to start with.

Does anyone run fixed-size hotkeys instead of the on-chart panel, and did the number of mistakes actually drop?
