Reading order error codes before blaming the market

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Failed orders come with messages that most traders skim past. Off quotes, invalid stops, no money, market closed, trade context busy, too many requests. Each one points at a different cause.

Invalid stops usually means the stop sits too close to the current price for the broker's minimum distance, which can widen when spreads blow out. Trade context busy suggests an EA or script is fighting for the same trading thread. Too many requests is a rate limit, and hammering the button during a fast move can actually make things worse.

Off quotes tends to be liquidity or price movement. Market closed during what should be an open session often points to a broker maintenance window or a symbol-specific trading hour quirk.

Sorting the errors by type over a few weeks turns random frustration into a short list of fixable items. Some will be platform setup, some will be broker behaviour, and some will be self-inflicted button mashing.

Which error code shows up most often in your journal, and did identifying it change anything about how orders get sent?
