Account size changes which scalping style is viable

Post by Amanhasnoname »

A 500 dollar account and a 50,000 dollar account face different constraints. Minimum lot sizes, commission structures, and the cost of a stop-out all behave differently.

On a small account, risking 1 percent on a 4 pip stop means a tiny position, where costs per lot like commission are proportionally high. A flat commission of 3.5 dollars per side on a 0.1 lot trade is a larger share of the target than on larger sizes.

Larger accounts have more flexibility in position sizing but encounter slippage and liquidity issues sooner. They also face different broker responses, with some brokers treating large accounts differently.

Strategy selection should reflect these facts. Very short targets may not suit small accounts with fixed costs, while larger accounts might need to trade more liquid pairs and sessions.

Reviewing the cost structure against account size before settling on a style avoids building a strategy that cannot work economically.
