Treasury yields move the dollar in ways the news does not explain

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Sudden moves in US yields often precede dollar moves. A spike in the ten-year yield tends to lift USD against low-yielding currencies like the yen and franc.

Yield moves can come from auctions, data surprises, or flows with no obvious headline. A price jump in USDJPY with no news may trace back to a yield move that happened seconds earlier.

Monitoring the ten-year and two-year yields next to a forex chart provides context. If USDJPY rises with yields, the move has backing. If it rises alone, it may reflect forex-specific flows and fade more easily.

Treasury auctions at set times can also create short bursts of volatility. A weak auction can push yields up and send the dollar higher briefly.

The relationship is not constant, and some days the dollar ignores yields entirely. Observing it for a few weeks reveals how tightly the pairs in question follow.

Are bond yields watched alongside forex charts, and does the relationship hold for the pairs traded?
