The pricing group nobody tells clients about

Brokers often put clients into pricing groups. Two accounts at the same company, trading the same pair at the same time, can see different spreads. The reasons vary: account size, introducing broker, promotional tier, trading history, or deposit method.

Pricing groups are legitimate when disclosed. The trouble arises when the marketing spread is based on the best group, while an account lands in a different one without any explanation.

The comparison is easy to spot between friends. One trader's EURUSD shows 0.6 pips during a calm hour, and another's shows 1.1 on the same broker. The usual guess is a different account type, but sometimes it's a different group within the same type.

It extends to execution. Groups can have different slippage settings, requote rules, and even different liquidity routing.

A short message to support asking which pricing group the account belongs to, and what determines it, is a fair question. Some answer plainly. Others deflect, which tells its own story.

For scalpers, a gap of half a pip between groups can be the entire edge.

Has an account ever been moved to a different pricing group, and did execution change afterward?
