Sold as a must-have, a VPS is money down the drain for a lot of manual scalpers.
What it fixes: a machine that stays on, protection from power and home internet drops, and for automated systems, a short hop to the broker's server. What it doesn't fix: reaction time, the broker's execution, or a strategy with no edge. Clicking buttons through a remote desktop adds its own lag between eyes and order, which can make things worse.
Latency matters most when a robot fires dozens of orders and a few milliseconds change the fills. For a human taking a handful of 5-minute trades, the difference between 8 ms and 80 ms barely registers next to a 1 pip spread.
Where it earns its fee is the unattended case. An EA that has to run through the Asian session while the laptop sleeps needs somewhere to live.
Plenty of people pay monthly for one and log in twice a week. Fair question to ask before subscribing.
Do you run a VPS for manual trades or only for EAs, and did anyone ever measure ping before and after?
a VPS is not a speed upgrade for most manual scalpers
