requote, reject, partial fill. three different headaches

Post by Shadow Trader »

Requote: the broker says price changed, here is a new one, take it or leave it. It costs time, and price may move again while deciding.

Reject: the order is refused outright. Typical reasons include no liquidity at that price, a price outside the allowed deviation, or a closed market. Nothing is opened and the trader is left flat, watching the move happen without them.

Partial fill: only part of the size gets filled because that size wasn't available at the price. It shows up mostly with larger lots or thin moments. Depending on the fill policy (fill or kill, immediate or cancel, return), the rest is cancelled or filled at worse prices.

For scalping each one hurts differently. A requote kills the entry timing. A reject skips the trade altogether. A partial fill leaves an odd-sized position with a stop and target planned for a different risk.

Many accounts show all three under vague error messages, so the terminal log is where the real answer sits.

Many platforms show nothing but a generic error code, so the exact wording in the terminal journal is worth saving.

Which one hits you most often, and on which pairs or times of day?
