Using the 10:00 London candle as a filter for a second trade

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Most London scalping happens in the first hour. If you want a second trade after 10:00, the 10:00 to 10:15 candle is a simple filter to test.

The idea: if the 10:00 candle continues the morning's direction, the move still has participation and a second trade in that direction makes sense. If it's a reversal candle, the morning's move may be finished.

How to test it:
  • Define the morning's direction: 10:00 price against 08:00 price.
  • Classify the 10:00 M15 candle: continuation (closes in the same direction) or reversal (closes against it with a body of at least half its range).
  • For every second trade after 10:00 in the morning's direction, record the outcome by candle type.
How to read it: if continuation candles give about 55% winners and reversal candles about 35%, at a 1:1 reward the filter turns roughly break-even into a positive group and removes a clearly negative one. Gaps of that size need around 100 trades in each group before you trust them.

It's not a strong edge on its own, but filters for late entries don't need to be strong. They just need to skip the worst half.

Does anyone have a filter for later-morning trades?
