Red flags in paid trading courses

Post by Shadow Trader »

The market for trading education is enormous, and not all of it is honest. A few patterns show up repeatedly.

Red flags to watch for:

- Guaranteed or very specific profit claims
- Results shown only as screenshots, never verified statements
- Urgency tactics: "only three spots left"
- Rented cars and luxury backdrops as proof of skill
- No discussion of losses, drawdowns, or risk
- Refund policies buried in fine print
- Upsells to "advanced" tiers that reveal the "real" strategy
- Instructors with no track record beyond selling courses

Green flags are the opposite: transparent track records, emphasis on risk, realistic expectations, an active and critical community, and clear refund terms.

A bit of research before paying goes a long way. Searching for independent reviews, checking for complaints, and asking in forums can save a lot of money.

And a final note on the testimonials. A page full of glowing reviews proves nothing, because curated testimonials are easy to produce. Independent discussion threads where students share unfiltered experiences, including bad ones, are far more informative, even if they're messier to read.

What courses were worth the money, which ones weren't, and how could that have been known beforehand?

Good list. One more red flag we see a lot in Asia: courses that sell a signal group or copy trading service as a bonus, where the provider also earns a rebate from the recommended broker. The incentive is then volume, not results.

Asking for a verified track record, like a third-party audited statement or a myfxbook with full history, filters most of them out. And a real teacher will spend most of the time on risk and on losses, which is the opposite of what the marketing shows.
