Videos promise a 100 dollar account turned into thousands within months. Reality is less cinematic.
With a 100 dollar balance, a 1% risk is one dollar. On EURUSD, a one dollar risk with a 10 pip stop means a position of about 0.01 lots, and even that is a squeeze. There's little room for error, and spreads and commissions take a hefty share of each trade.
Growth in percentage terms can still be decent, but in absolute terms it's tiny. A 5% monthly gain adds five dollars. That's not a living, and chasing a faster pace by increasing risk often wipes out the account.
A 100 dollar account works best as a learning tool. It's a way to practice real execution with real stakes, at a size that doesn't hurt.
If the goal is learning, a small account makes sense. If the goal is income, the arithmetic has to be faced honestly. Dividing a monthly income target by a realistic monthly return shows the capital required, and that number is often far larger than the one on the screen.
What was the best use of a very small account, and what unrealistic expectations got corrected along the way?
Starting with 100 dollars: realistic or fantasy?
