The standard advice is to check a higher timeframe before taking a scalp. Align the M1 entry with the M15 trend, and the odds improve.
There's logic here. Trading with the larger direction means fewer fights against momentum. But there's a cost: every confirmation filter removes trades, and higher timeframe signals lag. By the time M15 confirms a trend, the M1 move may be mostly over.
A scalper has to decide whether the filter improves expectancy enough to justify fewer trades. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it removes the best early entries along with the bad ones.
The quick check is comparing the strategy with and without the higher timeframe filter, same period, same costs, and looking at total net result, not just win rate.
A fair point on the other side: higher timeframe filters can reduce the number of losing counter-trend trades dramatically. The loss of a few good early entries may be a small price to pay for avoiding a string of stop-outs against the dominant move. The trade count and drawdown comparison tells which effect is bigger.
What does the data say, and which higher timeframe, if any, made a real difference?
Multi-timeframe confirmation: helpful or just lag?
