A Withdrawal Has Been Pending for Five Days

A Withdrawal Has Been Pending for Five Days

Situation: you requested a 1,200-dollar withdrawal. The broker's terms promised processing within 1 to 2 business days. It is now day five, the status says "pending," and support replies with generic messages.

Act in order, calmly. First, check the facts: the request date, the method, the amount, and any verification requirements you may have missed. Confirm that your documents are approved and that the account is not flagged.

Second, write down the timeline: request time, each contact with support, and each reply. Save screenshots of the pending status.

Third, ask a specific question in writing: what is the reason for the delay, what is the expected completion date, and what additional information is needed? A precise question requires a precise answer.

Fourth, look at the terms for the stated processing time and the complaint process. Note any deadline for escalation.

Fifth, if there is no resolution within a defined window, send a formal complaint to the compliance or complaints department, referring to the terms and including your timeline.

Sixth, know the external options. For a regulated broker, a regulator or ombudsman exists. If you funded by card, chargeback windows are often around 120 days, but conditions vary.

Seventh, do not deposit more, do not accept pressure to cancel the withdrawal or reverse it into trading, and do not share account credentials.

Decide in advance the level at which you pause trading with that broker.

Exercise: write a withdrawal complaint template with spaces for dates and amounts.

Good sequence. One more thing to add between steps two and three: check whether the method changed. We had a case where a card withdrawal was quietly converted to a bank transfer because the card deposit had already been refunded in full, and the transfer took longer. Support only said "pending" until we asked specifically which method and which reference number.

Also worth knowing that many brokers process withdrawals only on business days in their own time zone. A request on Friday evening in Asia is often Monday in Cyprus or London, so "1 to 2 business days" can mean five calendar days. That doesn't excuse day five with no answer, but it changes when to start worrying.

A trader has a decent run, requests a withdrawal on Monday, and the broker asks for a fresh proof of address because the one on file is older than three months. Documents go back on Tuesday. Review takes a few working days. Meanwhile the money sits there, and the account is still being traded.

That is where the damage tends to happen. Funds that were supposed to be gone are back in the equity figure, so position sizing quietly drifts up. Sizing off a percentage of balance means trades suddenly run 20 or 30 percent larger than planned, using money that was already mentally spent.

The second effect is psychological. A pending withdrawal feels like a bill coming due, and trades start getting judged against it. A mid-sized loss looks like a threat to the payout, so exits get tighter or entries get skipped.

A cleaner approach is to treat requested funds as already gone. Some traders subtract the pending amount from the balance in their own sizing sheet the moment the request goes in. Another habit is finishing verification completely, with every document recently dated, before the first deposit grows large, instead of at the first withdrawal.

Delays also differ by method. Bank wires, cards and wallets can all move at different speeds, and some brokers insist the withdrawal goes back the way the deposit arrived.

How does anyone here handle position sizing while a withdrawal is pending, and has a delay ever changed how that week was traded?

The advice to ask a specific question in writing is one of the most effective steps. Generic support replies often come from templates, and a vague question like where is my money gets a vague answer. A precise question, asking for the reason for the delay, the expected completion date, and any additional information needed, is harder to answer with a template. It also creates a written record that the broker was asked and how it responded. If the matter escalates, that record is valuable evidence showing that you followed the process and gave them every chance to resolve it.

I sat through a seven day pending withdrawal once, and the thing that finally moved it was not another ticket but a short written message asking which team had my file and what exactly was outstanding. Up to then support kept replying with the same template. Within a day I learned that the payment team wanted the card statement showing my original deposit, which was never mentioned in the verification checklist.

While it was pending I made a rule that I would not trade the account above my usual size, and I copied the requested amount into my journal as already withdrawn. Seeing a smaller balance in my own sheet than on the platform stopped me from treating that money as risk capital, which was the real danger that week.

I would also keep every reply in one folder with the date and the name of the agent. When I later had to escalate, having a clean timeline of six contacts made the complaint two paragraphs instead of a long story, and they answered it quickly.

Checking verification status first is sensible, since it's the most common legitimate cause of delays. Some brokers request additional documents at the withdrawal stage, such as proof of the payment method used for deposits, a bank statement, or a selfie with identification. These requests are sometimes sent by email and can end up in spam folders. Checking the client portal and email for any outstanding requests before escalating avoids a complaint that turns out to be the client's oversight. If everything is complete, the delay becomes the broker's responsibility to explain.

Chargeback windows vary by card network and issuer, so the 120 day figure is a rough guide rather than a guarantee. Card issuers often count from the transaction date or from when the problem became known, and the rules for disputing a deposit to a trading account can be complicated, since the money was used for a service. Contacting the card issuer early, explaining the situation, and asking what options exist and what documentation they need, is better than waiting until the window may have closed. Bank transfers usually offer much less recourse than card payments in disputes like this.

The seventh point, not depositing more or accepting pressure to cancel the withdrawal, is crucial. Some problematic brokers respond to withdrawal requests by offering bonuses for keeping funds in the account, or by suggesting that a further deposit will unlock the withdrawal. Both are warning signs. A legitimate broker processes withdrawals without conditions beyond verification. Has anyone here had a withdrawal delayed well beyond the stated time? I'd be interested in what the eventual explanation was and which step finally got it resolved, since that could help other members facing the same situation. Any detail on the broker's response times would be welcome too.
