Why demo results do not transfer to live trading, and what to do about it
Many traders show impressive results on a demo account and then struggle when real money is on the line. The differences are not only emotional. Demo fills are often perfect, without slippage or requotes, and spreads may be tighter than live. On top of that, the pressure of real losses changes behavior: traders cut winners short, move stops, and skip valid setups. A practical bridge is to move gradually. After a solid demo sample with rules followed, start live with a size so small that losses barely matter, but where the fills and spreads are real. Run that for at least a month and compare the results to demo. The comparison shows how much of the difference came from execution costs and how much from behavior. Then increase size in steps. Keep the same journal and rule compliance tags across both stages so you can see if the discipline holds. The goal is not to prove the strategy again, but to prove that you can execute it when something is at stake.

A gradual move from demo to small live size is sensible. One thing I would add is to treat the small live phase as a test of execution, not profit. Comparing fills and spreads with the demo shows whether the strategy's edge survives real conditions.
