A weekend screenshot review that takes forty-five minutes

Post by Shadow Trader »

Reviewing trades can sound tedious, so I made it systematic. On Saturday, I open my journal and screenshot every trade from the week, showing the setup, the entry, and the outcome. I go through them one at a time, asking three questions: was the setup defined by my rules, was execution correct, and what did the market do afterward? I sort trades into four categories: good setup with good result, good setup with bad result, bad setup with good result, and bad setup with bad result. The second and third categories are the most instructive. A good setup that lost is normal variance, and a bad setup that won is dangerous because it reinforces poor habits. I then write one concrete adjustment for the following week, such as skipping Friday afternoons or paying more attention to higher timeframe bias. I limit myself to one change so I can see its effect. Forty five minutes weekly adds up to a much better understanding than random chart staring.

The bad setup that won is the quadrant I now review first. I tag those trades with a red label in the journal and count them per month. When the count rises, it is usually a sign I am loosening the rules after a good run, long before it shows up as a drawdown.
