A common question from newer traders: if I open an account through a partner or IB link, will my spreads, commissions or execution be different?
It depends on the arrangement:
- Some IBs are paid from the broker's revenue share. Your conditions are identical to a direct client.
- Some arrangements add a markup to the spread or commission, which is how the IB gets paid. Your cost is higher.
- Some IBs pass part of their commission back to you as a rebate, making your net cost lower.
- In some cases, accounts opened via certain partners are placed on different account types or servers.
How to check:
- Compare the account type and pricing page for direct clients with what you were offered.
- Ask the broker directly: "Is there any markup on my account because of the referral?"
- Check spreads at the same moments on a direct demo and your live account.
A trustworthy IB should be able to explain exactly how they're paid and what that means for you.
Have you compared conditions with and without a referral? Did you find a difference?
